at the forefront of this field of research, with a number of labs combining optical, electrophysiological and molecular techniques to dissect the neural circuit basis of a variety of fundamental behaviors, including sensory processing, working memory, reward processing, learning and spatial navigation. In addition, these experimentalists often work closely with theorists to analyze and model their data, taking advantage of the strong computational neuroscience community

Computational models develop frameworks and intuitions to understand how incremental computations performed within individual neurons and neuronal networks give rise to system-level behavior.  Our faculty are using mathematical principles combined with theory and experiments to understand how the biophysical properties of neurons determine integration, oscillatory dynamics and information processing functions; how complex processes (like memory) are implemented from molecules to networks, and how learning algorithms cn be used to mine to extract information from
